Ex-Hurricane Ophelia Arklow October 16th 2017

On October 16th 2017, Ex-Hurricane Ophelia struck Ireland. The storm itself was extremely unprecedented and its power resulted in a countrywide Red Status warning from Met Eireann due to heavy rain and wind. The storm caused power outages and several businesses closed early due to the severe weather with transport services being notable examples.

Arklow town was did not impacted severely by the storm, though some parts of the town were badly affected, such as the Caravan Park near the town’s North Beach. Apart from this area, the storm mostly caused people to lose power along with fences and trees being blown down. Additionally Ophelia generated an impressive show at the South Beach with large waves with crashing over Arklow’s Pier Head.
